“No Goosebumps, No Track”: Simply City on TRK/ID México
César opens up his studio and his story. He started out in booths in Chile wiring up the turntables himself, and he learned to mix with two copies of the same Michael Jackson record: a neighbour told him that if he could get "Off the Wall" to sound like a single song across both decks, he'd learned to mix. He walks us through the Stereo formula hour by hour — beatless ambient at midnight, the first kick around 1:30, 3am when Montreal's bars close and the room floods, and prime time from 4 onward — and why a two-hour set means losing your patience at the thirty-minute mark while a ten-hour one demands all of it. Then we go full nerd mode: Ableton, the Sequential Pro 3, the Prophet Rev2, Diva, Pigments and Serum, his mix chain, and why he leaves mastering to the specialists. Also why he never looks at a spectrum analyser: if a track doesn't give him goosebumps, it doesn't work. He tells us how he met Hernán Cattáneo — a friend said "go to Buenos Aires, there's a guy playing at Pacha" and he got on his first ever flight to cross the Andes. Years later, out of work after his club closed, he knocked on Stereo's door with a CD. Six months on they called him for a warm up: opening for Hernán. Today they make music together, play 24-hour marathons, and Hernán is family. And the human side: the advice from his mother that changed everything, the two lives he leads now, Emily — whom he met at Stereo and who today is his partner in all of it — his sons, and the message he wrote on Instagram and read out to us at the end of the episode. 🎧 FOUR EXCLUSIVE TRACK IDs Including his remix of NV's "Falling", which only he and Hernán have, and a bootleg he's giving away on SoundCloud.
